Research

My research focuses on using numerical simulations to study questions in galaxy evolution. I’m working with Professor Evan Schneider on using her hydrodynamics code, Cholla, to create high-resolution simulations of isolated disk galaxies that contain dust. Although dust has been recognized as a key component of many of the processes that regulate how galaxies evolve, most codes do not include dust in their simulations, and those that do cannot create galaxy-scale simulations with sufficient resolution to directly capture the mechanisms that destroy dust. To this end, I am developing a dust model to add to Cholla that we will use to create simulations that address many of the open questions pertaining to dust in galaxies.
